A budgeting app without bank sync — on purpose

Partly by design, partly by necessity: bank-account aggregation — the technology services like Plaid use to auto-import transactions — isn't available for banks in Guatemala, so Kakaw was built manual-entry-first from day one. That became a deliberate privacy feature: your bank credentials are never requested, stored, or shared with anyone, including Kakaw.

It takes more time than automatic bank sync, and we won't pretend otherwise. Kakaw's receipt-scanning (OCR) feature on Premium can fill in the amount, merchant, and category from a photo of a receipt to cut down on typing, but you still confirm and save each entry yourself.

Kakaw uses passkeys — your device's biometric unlock (Face ID, fingerprint) or PIN — instead of a traditional password. It's a widely adopted, phishing-resistant standard, so there's no password to type, forget, or have leaked in a breach.

Yes. Kakaw is a fully offline-capable app — you can add transactions, check your budgets, and review your net worth with no connection at all, and everything syncs privately the next time you're online.
